Hello and welcome to my very first blog post! Woo-Hoo! I've had it on my mind for a very long time now, to create a blog, and I'm finally at a stage in my life and career that I feel ready to do so. Hence this first post!
Some of you may know me already and have followed me along on my journey on social media (thank you for being so supportive through the years!) and some of you are just now meeting me, which is just as exciting! And I want to thank everyone for taking the time to read this first post of mine. I've never really had a blog before, not one that I ever viewed as professional anyway, so I'm really excited for this!
So, why am I starting a blog and just what will I be writing about? Well that's a good question, and here's the answer:
Surface Pattern Design + Surface Design
The life of being an illustrator + designer
Creative small businesses
Having a healthy lifestyle and taking care of yourself as an artist
Managing anxiety and stress as an artist
My travel adventures
My current favorites (products, shops, movies, books, etc.)
As you can see, I've got some specific categories that I'll be focusing on and I'm really excited about them! Even though this blog is geared towards art licensing and surface design, I wanted to add in having a healthy lifestyle and managing anxiety and stress. Why? Because those were two things I've really struggled with in the past (the anxiety has stuck around!) that I'd love to help other artists with. It's so easy to get lost in creating your designs and meeting deadlines, that sometimes we forget to take care of ourselves. And I'm here to help!
Okay, now for the fun part.
10 fun facts about me:
I’ve ridden on the Dominator (three times to be exact!), which is a roller coaster with the third tallest vertical loop in the world.
While we’re on the topic of roller coasters, I’ve also ridden on a stand up roller coaster where you go upside down as well! And yes, you really are standing up, crazy I know!
I’ve always been an entrepreneur ever since I was a little girl. I grew up creating fundraisers and weekly newsletters for my family and neighborhood, and when I was 16 I got my own business license from the town hall and I would go to craft shows and sell jewelry that I made as well as artwork that I created.
For the longest time, I was super scared of planes. I’m talking petrified. I refused to go on them! Well, one day when I was 18, I had a thought of wanting to surprise my dad who lives in Virginia. I bought a plane ticket, and I got on a plane for the very first time, all by myself and flew to Virginia!
I have been to the top of the Rockefeller Center. It’s such a gorgeous view! Next up, I want to make it to the top of the Empire State Building too.
I’m totally that person that stops the car to get out and pick up a turtle that is trying to cross the road, and helps them get to the other side so they don’t get hurt.
Although I live in Massachusetts now, I was born and raised in Virginia. I’ll always be a southern girl at heart.
I’m a proud crazy cat lady! I love all things cat. I have cat socks, cat car magnets, a cat car air freshener hanging from my rearview mirror, cat jewelry, cat ears, a cat blanket, an actual cat, and soooo much more.
I’m an astronomy lover! I have a super nice telescope as well as astronomical binoculars. I LOVE just sitting outside and exploring the sky. It’s such a magical feeling.
Last but not least, I had my artwork exhibited for the very first time at Surtex, my dream show, this past May! At age 23!
Alright, I think that’s most of the interesting things there are to know about me. But now I want to know about you! Can you relate to any of my interesting facts? Or what are some interesting facts of your own? I can’t wait to get to know you.
